This Discover Your Major Visit Day is for students who are interested in Northwest and wish to learn more about Emergency and Disaster Management 主要. The day includes interacting with current Northwest faculty and students. The event will highlight Northwest with a campus tour and information sessions.
Northwest Missouri State University would like to invite all those interested to participate in the Emergency and Disaster Management Major Visit Day. The day will consist of a campus tour led by the Northwest Student Ambassadors, an admissions overview with a Northwest 招生 Representative, a presentation from Northwest Faculty about the Emergency and Disaster Management Program, 最后, a chance to observe the Missouri Hope Full Scale Exercise in action!
The Emergency and Disaster Management 主要 uses a multi-disciplinary approach to study crisis, drawing from courses and faculty in Geography, 心理学, Social Sciences and Communications. While half the class work involves a crisis management core, electives provide flexibility so that students can tailor the 主要 to their individual and specific academic and professional needs. This approach provides the student with both theoretical and practical knowledge that is valued in the public, 私人, and non-profit sectors. 也, students are encouraged to participate in our field exercises in Florida and Macedonia and employ best-practices through involvement with Northwest's C-CERT program.
Missouri Hope is a full scale exercise that focuses on educating students about the challenges and conditions local first-responders encounter in the real world. Students find themselves responding to the aftermath of a tornado and the subsequent flooding associated with the storm. Students carry out roles including disaster medical triage and treatment, over-water rescue, high ropes course rescue, water treatment, radio communications, coordination of first responder groups, and the various leadership roles included in the Incident Command System (ICS).
Space is limited; be sure to register as soon as possible!
Northwest ensures students are career ready, day one through internships, field experiences and networking opportunities. Read Jace's story »
